Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 With 8-Axle Ready To Maneuver – Liebherr has launched the 2016 Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 prototype 8-axle crane, which has a maximum load capacity of nearly 500 tons. Including a 278 ft telescopic boom and all supports, the crane is designed to travel on public roads which allow a load of 13.2 tons per axle. It can also be reconfigured in various transport weights and axle load versions.
This unit uses the Liebherr VarioBallast feature, first launched in the company’s 5-axle crane, to vary the weight of the ballast in an unlimited increase from 22 to 16.4 feet. This gives cranes the ability to work more skillfully at restricted sites. This model has a maximum weight of 149 tons and shares the same weight plate with several other Liebherr cranes. The Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 with crane cabin is positioned on the side of the boom, and does not have to be swung from the rear driving position to the side work position.
The Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 has an 8 cylinder Liebherr engine, a 687 single cylinder that drives the crane, so there is no need for separate superstructures and engine maintenance and fuel consumption problems. The eight-cylinder Liebherr diesel engine in the undercarriage that develops 505kW / 687hp and 3,160Nm of torque provides an LTM of 1450-8.1 with all the power needed.
The Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 engine meets emission regulations for Phase IV / Tier 4f and is also available in Phase III versions for threshold countries. Having a 12-speed ZF-TC tronic gearbox, torque converter ensures perfect maneuverability. Intarder, integrated hydrodynamic brakes without wear in the gearbox, acts as a retarder. Also available is Telma eddy current brakes.
All Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 rear axles on the new 450 ton crane have active electro-hydraulic steering depending on vehicle speed. This improves vehicle maneuverability and drastically reduces tire wear. Five steering programs can be chosen easily at the touch of a button. No need to raise the center shaft in crab speed.
