Thanks to the powerful 12-cylinder AMG powerpack, the Coupe matches the performance of a well-trained sports car, from the Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG 2003 accelerating to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Its maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

In addition to the increase in displacements from 5513 to 5980 cubic centimeters, many other modifications are responsible for increased output and torque in the Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG 2003. AMG has increased the cylinder tube from 82 to 82.6 millimeters, extending the crankshaft stroke by six millimeters to 93 millimeter and increase the turbo charge pressure to a maximum of 1.5 bar. In addition they have used forged pistons, main and big-end bearings made of very high temperatures and pressure-resistant materials and enlarged holes in injection nozzles to achieve higher fuel flow.
