Pontiac Tempest GTO Convertible 1967 Design Still Much Interest – Pontiac Tempest is a mid-size Pontiac A-body car. Introduced in 1960 as a compact unibody design, the Pontiac Tempest was substantially redesigned for 1964, when it became bigger and stronger. The new Tempest features a traditional body-on-frame design, departing from an unusual rear transaxle design from the previous Tempest.
All the Pontiac Tempest body styles were maintained in 1967. Tempest 1964 was a handsome and recognizable car today because of its strong lines in the 1960s and its distinctive tip marks. In 1965, Pontiac piled Tempest’s main lights, and in 1966 and 1967 Tempest, the two-sided grille of the Pontiac brand became more prominent.
1967 Pontiac Tempest GTO Convertible is available in two trims, with the basic model fitted with small hubcaps, rubber mats, and a few trim body. Customs receive carpets and more chrome in all parts, especially seen in car seat belts. V-8 Tempests receive a fender badge that records machine options.
In 1966, the base engine was converted into a 230-cid inline six-cylinder overhead cam at 165 hp, with an optional carburetor upgrade being 207 hp. The carburetor option on six cylinders was raised to 215 hp in 1967. 326 V-8 remains constant at 250 or 285 hp, depending on the carburetor. The transmission options available in 1964 Tempest are a three-speed manual column-shift, four-by-floor manual, or two-speed automatic. The Turbo-Hydramatic option was added in 1965 and continued throughout the era.
1967 Pontiac Tempest GTO Convertible captures many of the same experiences at a more affordable price. The look of this car is comparable to its more famous sibling, and still can be equipped with a powerful V-8 engine and four-speed manual transmission. Rust is a common problem, as is the case with most old cars, but there is so much production that a good example is not hard to find.
